Fisheries Minister Shri Ajay Vishnoi inspected Bargi fish seedlings area in Jabalpur on Thursday. The Madhya Pradesh Fisheries Federation is undertaking the work of fish production in Bargi reservoir. Fisheries Federation managing director Smt. Veena Ghanekar was also present during the inspection.
Shri Vishnoi inspected the hatchery being developed at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore. The Fisheries Minister said that several members of Fishermen's Cooperative Societies are engaged in the fisheries work in the Bargi Dam. With this in view, the hatchery should be developed as per their requirements. Officers told Shri Vishnoi that less water is the major problem of the hatchery. In this connection, Shri Vishnoi instructed officers of Narmada Valley, Public Health Engineering and Water Resources departments for making proper planning and arrangements for regular and uninterrupted water supply to the hatchery.
The Madhya Pradesh Fisheries Federation is undertaking fish procuction in 10 reservoirs of the state. Last year, 305 tonnes of fish was produced in the Bargi reservoir, which was 101 per cent of the target. Shri Vishnoi also apprised himself of the process of collecting fish seeds.
Credit cards distributed among fishermen
After the inspection, Fisheries Minister Shri Vishnoi gave away credit cards worth Rs 10 thousand each to 18 fishermen, who are members of Fishermen's Cooperative Society. Committee member Shri Shobha Ram said that the committee comprises 78 members and has Rs 3 lakh in its account. Shri Vishnoi informed the fishermen about Jaldeep Yojana being run for their benefit by the federation. Under this scheme, arrangements for health, education, fair-price food articles etc are being made for the fishermen and their families, who reside on islands in the reservoirs for fish breeding.
