Horticulture, irrigation and land development works undertaken in 62.5 lakh hectare private lands of reserved and backward class people (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme)

Horticulture, irrigation and land development works have been undertaken in 62.5 lakh hectare private lands of reserved and backward class people in the state under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. Giving this information, Minister for Panchayats, Rural Development and Social Justice Shri Gopal Bhargava said that on one hand large-scale employment is being generated under MNAREGA and on the other hand important infrastructural works are also being undertaken.

Minister for Panchayats and Rural Development Shri Bhargava said that 2.27 lakh works of horticulture, irrigation and land reforms have been done on private lands while 1.3 lakh works are underway. Shri Bhargava informed that this scheme has benefited small and marginal farmers of scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, beneficiaries of Indira Awas Yojana and people living below poverty line. Shri Bhargava said that for increasing irrigation potential, wells, ponds etc are dug on the private lands of these sections of society.

So far, 79 thousand such works have been completed in 8 districts of Indore division, 6791 works in five districts of Bhopal division, 2650 works in three districts of Morena division, 7689 works in five districts of Gwalior division, 15335 works in three districts of Narmadapuram division, 50233 works in seven districts of Jabalpur division, 19000 works in three districts of Rewa division, 17498 works in five districts of Sagar division, 6000 works in six districts of Ujjain division and 22848 works in four districts of Shahdol division.
