Governor for awakening of people to human rights

Bhopal, Aug 12:
The Governor Shri Rameshwar Thakur has said that violation of human rights can be effectively prevented only when people are awakened to their rights and make joint efforts. He was speaking at function organized by the National Law University Bhopal here today.
The Governor dedicated to people a report prepared by the University on the functioning of the Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission. He also released a book Manav Adhikar - Kyon Aur Kaise authored by chairman of the MPHRC Justice Dr. M. Dharmadhikari.
Listing the initiatives for human rights protection across the world, the Governor said that the India has always been sensitive about the human rights. Protection of human rights is a prime requisite for good governance. The state government should ensure effective action on the recommendations of human rights commission. Appreciating the commitment of Justice Shri Dharmadhikari, he said that the human rights commission has addressed social concerns in the state wining people's confidence and faith.
The Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan observed that process of development and protection of human rights should go together. He said that India's rich culture traditions honour and recognise the rights of humans and even animals. India's culture has given noble principles to respect every human being regardless of geographical boundaries. India has regarded the world as a family. The very concept of human rights thus finds its origin in India's cultural heritage. He said that western nations have however advocated and re-defined human rights but they have also been violators of human rights.
Shri Chouhan said that the Madhya Pradesh is the first state to have created human rights commission. Justice Shri Dharmadhikari has enhanced its glory.
Justice Dharmadhikari said that said that the human rights commission is working as a court. The Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission has evolved a process of disposing cases of human rights violation with the appreciable cooperation of state government. He said that the human rights commission has initiated counselling for the violators while keeping a strict vigil on the possible violation of human rights.
Shri Kailash Chandra Pant of Rashtra Bhasha Prachar Samiti said that the book gives justifications that the concept of human rights originally belongs to India. He threw light on the book saying that the book will enlighten readers about the importance of human rights.
Director National Law University Professor S. S. Singh gave welcome speech. Dr. U. P. Singh-chairman of Human Rights Centre of the University informed about the chapters of the report on working of human rights commission. Lokayukta Shri P. P. Navlekar, members of the Human Rights Commission Sarvashri Vijay Shukla, Justice Shri Narayan Singh Azad, principal secretary higher education Shri Jaydeep Govind, faculty members and students were present.
